Welcome to the development log for The Coven of Thornwall.
I have so many ideas, and I'm excited to share this world with you all very soon.
Currently, I am expanding the characters' backstories. There is a lot of lore to uncover and relationships to build.
Alongside this, I’m continuing to shape the wider setting: Thornwall Academy itself, a place that wears tradition and prestige like a mask, and the settlement of Morholt that exists in its shadow. Both are old, layered spaces, built on compromises and quiet rituals that few question anymore. The deeper I go, the more I realise that the setting isn’t just a backdrop, it’s an active participant in the story, exerting pressure on everyone who lives within its bounds.
I’m also actively working on the prologue and first chapter. These opening sections are doing a lot of heavy lifting: establishing tone, atmosphere, and stakes, while carefully introducing the main characters without revealing too much too soon. I want the beginning to feel like an invitation — alluring, slightly dangerous, and impossible to ignore. My hope is that the world of The Coven of Thornwall will rapidly feel familiar and inviting as much as it is mysterious and dangerous.
There’s a lot still taking shape, but the foundations are firmly in place. This world has teeth, and it’s starting to bite back.
Stay tuned for more updates.
